During his training in the Wajima Urushi Lacquer Institute of Art in Ishikawa, he has mastered the traditional Japanese Urushi Lacquer Art from the famous master Masato Ikawa and Chokou Watabe. Mr. Nishihara, who resides in the Hiroshima region of Japan, started working with Maki-e designs on Sailor’s fountain pens in 2002. He maintains the Japanese traditional techniques and yet he does not hesitate where necessary to bring new youthful ideas into the art of Maki-e. Conway Stewart Borealis

Inspired by the breathtaking sight of the Northern Lights, the new Conway Stewart Borealis is a vibrant mixture of reds, shimmering pearl, and deep royal blue. Each piece of material is unique, making every Borealis a stunning individual work of the pen maker's art.

Limited to only 50 numbered fountain pens or roller balls, this special edition is crafted in our factory in Devon, England. The Borealis is based on the popular Belliver model, ideal for the widest possible range of hand sizes and writing styles. Not so large as to be unwieldy in the hand, but still of a size to command instant attention, as well as to afford a comfortable grip. The gently tapering cap and barrel preserve the traditional classic flat top design, while imparting a graceful balance in the hand. Offered as either a fountain pen or rollerball, the Borealis is ready to serve the daily needs of the modern lover of fine writing instruments.

The vivid series of colours stretching the length of the Belliver Borealis special edition are accented by gleaming black resin and solid 18 carat gold bands.

The Belliver is balanced using a solid brass barrel liner to offer just enough weight for the pen to sit easily in the hand without becoming tiring during long periods of writing. The cap is lighter in weight, allowing it to post securely on the end of the barrel if you so choose. The section is gently tapered to bolster the comfort of writing with the Belliver. When creating this Belliver design, the craftsmen at Conway Stewart were inspired by some of the greatest designs of the company's history. Looking to provide not merely an attractive pen, but a true modern classic that would serve faithfully as a reliable and enjoyable fine writing instrument.

These striking new designs are crafted of gleaming black resin and matt ebonite, engraved with intricate patterns. The Professional Series are perfectly balanced in the hand, and feature solid 18 carat gold nibs with rhodium plating to match the hallmarked sterling silver trim.

The Doctor Edition is based on our popular Marlborough Vintage model. Crafted from genuine ebonite, the material of choice for fountain pen manufacturers through the early 1930s. This new design is accented with the classic pinstripe engraving pattern along the full length of both cap and barrel, which is further set off with a tiffany polishing process to create a matt finish.

The Lawyer’s edition is based on our large and impressive Statesman model. Created with the idea of providing a perfect writing instrument for connoisseurs preferring a substantial pen, this model proved to be the perfect base for our tribute to the legal profession.
